Lincoln Public Schools officials are keeping an eye on the extreme heat and will make adjustments to the athletic schedule as needed.   LPS says it will follow all competition requirements for extreme heat as set by the National Federation of High Schools and Nebraska School Activities Association.  That includes having an athletic trainer at all scheduled competitions using a specialized thermometer called Wet Globe to monitor readings.

Sporting events will be postponed or canceled if temperatures measured with the thermometer reaches the extreme risk level.  Events could be delayed or include more breaks if the temperatures reach a high level.

If an athletic trainer is unable to be on site to monitor conditions, the athletic event will be rescheduled.  LPD says some athletic events have already been changed.
