By Chase Porter Aug 24, 2023 | 12:20 PM

A Sheridan Elementary School teacher has announced her bid for the State Board of Education – District 1 seat, representing most of Lincoln and Northwest Lancaster County.

Kristin Christensen has been a Lincoln Public Schools teacher for 8 years. At Sheridan Elementary, Christensen began as a special education teacher, and now currently serves as an Academic Intervention teacher, where she monitors the progress and helps students with academic needs.

“I’m running because as a teacher, and a mother of three with one child entering the public school system this year, I will bring a valuable perspective to the State Board of Education,” Christensen said. “Every student has unique needs, and I want to ensure that our education system serves all families and gives every student the opportunity to learn and be successful.”

The District 1 seat is currently held by Patsy Koch Johns, who is not planning to run for re-election and has endorsed Christensen. “As an educator and a mother, Kristin has my full support. I am confident she will work hard to bring about positive outcomes for students and teachers alike in our state,” said Koch Johns.
