By Tom Stanton Aug 23, 2023 | 9:08 AM

From one former university official, now to another.

Following Tuesday’s announcement that University of Nebraska System President Ted Carter was leaving Nebraska at the end of the year to become the president of Ohio State University Governor Jim Pillen issued a statement saying President Carter has been an extraordinary asset to NU students, faculty, staff members and our state taxpayers over the last three and a half years.

But during a telephone interview with KLIN News Wednesday morning, Pillen says he felt let down by Carter’s departure.  “Probably disappointment in higher education in terms of  presidents that just don’t stick with you.  Four years and move on to a greener pasture,”  Pillen says.

Pillen told KLIN News he thinks the world of President Carter “but he gave us his word, we changed things, we improved things so him bailing at this moment is very disappointing.”

Listen to Pillen’s full comment below.

Carter was unanimously approved by the OSU Board of Trustee’s. “I was drawn to Ohio State because it operates at the highest levels,” he said during his acceptance.

Carter began his role as the NU system president in January of 2020, and will begin at OSU January 1st, 2024.
