Humane Society Preparing For “Clear The Shelters” Event

By Tom Stanton Aug 23, 2023 | 3:33 PM

The Capital Humane Society will be looking to empty out their shelter this weekend with a one day pet adoption drive.  “We will be having our Clear The Shelters adoption day, which is a national adoption day,” executive director Matt Madcharo says.  “A day to try and essentially clear the shelter  out and get as many pets into homes as possible.”

The event will run from noon to 5:00 p.m. at the Pieloch  adoption fees on dogs five months and older and cats and kittens of all ages will be $50 at the Pieloch Pet Adoption Center near 70th and Nebraska Parkway.

Dogs five months and older will be $50 as well as cats and kittens of all ages.  Critters such as guinea pigs and rabbits will be 50 percent off.  License and rabies fees may apply for cat and dog adoptions.

“Last year we did 48 adoptions in that one day so hopefully we can break 50 this year,” Madcharo says.  Anyone wishing to attend should plan on bringing a photo ID along with all family members to meet a potential new pet.
