By Tom Stanton Aug 22, 2023 | 3:50 PM

Google has announced plans to build a data center in Lincoln. The announcement was made at the company’s Papillion data center campus on Tuesday morning along with city officials from Lincoln, Omaha and Papillion.

The center will be built near 56th and I-80 and will create hundreds of construction and permanent jobs in the future. “We are thrilled that Google has chosen Lincoln to grow their technical infrastructure presence in Nebraska, says Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird.

“This is an incredible day for Lincoln,” says Lincoln Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Jason Ball. “The addition of Google’s data center to our business landscape marks a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to foster economic growth and transformative development within our community.”

The data center in Lincoln will be the third in Nebraska launched by Google since 2019. “We are so excited to welcome Google to Lincoln,” says Luke Peltz, Lincoln Partnership for
Economic Development’s vice president. “The arrival of Google’s data center is a true testament to the collective efforts of the Lincoln Partnership for Economic Development and the city of
Lincoln to cultivate innovation and create new employment opportunities within our community.”

The construction timeline is not yet known, but Peltz says it will take a few years to build.
