Salvation Army Helps Lincoln Brace For Excessive Heat Wave

By Chase Porter Aug 18, 2023 | 1:21 PM

As Lincoln braces for an excessive heat wave this weekend… the Salvation Army of Lincoln wants to help you stay cool.

Annually, The Salvation Army partners with Westlake Ace Hardware for a Summer Fan Drive for families in need. In 2023, over 350 fans were collected… and Captain Kelsie Moreno told KLIN News, they have plenty left as we enter this hot spell.

“We know it’s going to be really hot and we want to do anything we can to help people stay cool. We have about 95 fans left. We’re looking to get them out as quickly as we can to those in need,” said Capt. Moreno.

All you need to do to pick up a free fan is visit the Salvation Army location on 2625 Potter St, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.  Bring a valid ID and fill out a simple form, and you’ll be on your way.

“It’s going to be boiling hot out there,” Capt. Moreno stressed, “If people are in need of just a place to cool off, they’re welcome to sit in the lobby. We always have ice water available. People can come in and fill up a water bottle and just stay hydrated, try the best they can to beat this heat.”
