Governor Jim Pillen and Nebraska Department of Correctional Services Director Rob Jeffreys announced today the location of a new state prison.
The $17 million property is set to be built at 112th and Adams in northeast Lincoln… to the southeast of the Lancaster Events Center. It will replace the current Nebraska State Penitentiary.
The new building will have 1,512-beds, and the workforce at the new facility will total more than 1,000 employees. Access to Interstate 80 was one of the factors considered when making the decision.
“This new multi-custody facility will be state of the art, increasing the safety, enhancing the environment of both the staff and the incarcerated population,” said Pillen.
Construction on the 305 acre site is slated to begin in the fall of 2024.
