Man Who Posed As LPS Student Pleads Not Guilty

By Tom Stanton Aug 16, 2023 | 3:56 PM

A 26 year old Lincoln man who was charged with sex crimes after posing as a student at two different Lincoln high schools last year has pleaded not guilty.  Zachary Scheich waived his initial arraignment and entered a not guilty plea earlier this month.

Scheich’s case will now go to trial. He is charged with two counts of child enticement using an electronic communication device and one count of sex trafficking of a minor.  According to LPS officials Scheich graduated from Southeast High School in 2015.

He then went by the name Zak Hess and posed as a high school student.  “Scheich initially enrolled at Northwest High School during the first semester and transferred to Southeast High School during the second semester, all during the 2022-2023 school year,” LPD Assistant Chief Brian Jackson said last month.

School records show he attended approximately 54 total days of school.  According to court documents Scheich communicated with girls as young as 13 to 14-year of age through text messages off school property.

LPS officials said that Scheich was enrolled in both schools after providing fraudulent copies of his birth certificate, immunization records, physicals and transcripts.  He will make his next court appearance next month.
