Pep Rally Marks Opening Of Standing Bear High School

By Tom Stanton Aug 14, 2023 | 3:51 PM

There was a little extra excitement at one Lincoln school on the first day of classes Monday.   The doors officially opened to freshmen students at the brand new Standing Bear High School near 70th and Saltillo Road.

Jane Black will be part of the first graduating class in 2027 and says it was a surreal feeling as she entered the school for the first time. “I was thinking wow, I’m actually doing this, this is actually happening. Just being able to walk through these doors.”

Renton LaHolt is also a freshman and is on the baseball team.  He’s looking forward to creating a culture and leaving a mark for future classes.   “I want it to be kind of like where students can rely on teachers and teachers can rely on students that’s in a friendly environment.”

On Monday afternoon the class of 2027 gathered in the auditorium for a pep rally and posed for their first class photo.

The students also learned about Standing Bear policies and procedures, met their teachers and took part in a scavenger hunt.  On Tuesday sophomores will arrive for their first day.  There will be more than 300 first and second year students this school year and there are about 30 staff members.
