An Omaha man was arrested after a Lancaster County Sheriff’s Deputy stopped a car on NW 48 and Highway 34 Thursday morning for having expired plates. Sheriff Terry Wagner says during the stop the deputy found a woman in the passenger seat.
“She retrieved an envelope from the glove compartment and wrote on there that she was being held against her will,” Wagner says. After realizing the woman had written the message Wagner says Chavonni Woods broke the woman’s phone. He says Woods also said he had a gun in the backseat and said he would shoot the woman and himself, but no gun was found.
Wagner says Woods and the woman had been in a long-term relationship that she was looking to end. “She’s been trying to break up with him, but he has taken all sorts of steps to prevent that from happening,” Wagner says.
Wagner says the two went to Council Bluffs for business and on their way back to Omaha he continued driving on I-80 and told her he was taking her to his mother’s house in Lincoln. The woman had injuries on her arms and abdomen that are believed to have been caused by Woods.
He was arrested and booked for false imprisonment, terroristic threats and domestic assault along with a warrant for his arrest in Omaha.
