You’ve had to Wait for It, but now is your chance to be in The Room Where It Happens and see the 11 time Tony award winning musical Hamilton at the Lied Center during its 12 day run which kicked off on Wednesday.

KLIN News had the chance to go behind the scenes with the Lied Center’s Executive Director Bill Stephan, who said this tour will make Lincoln history, “We are thrilled to have the most popular Broadway musical in America today at the Lied Center, the biggest performing arts event in Lincoln history with over 30,000 people attending with the 16 performances.”

Hamilton debuted on Broadway in 2015 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in New York City.

Stephan said they’ve been eyeing the historical hip-hop musical since its premier, but the meteoric success of the show delayed things due to high demand. “I started working on having Hamilton come when the show was in previews in 2015. We’re thrilled to have it before many communities in the nation. You can tell Nebraska and the Greater Lincoln area is thrilled to have it here.”

The Lied has prided its hosting of Hamilton on the affordability of its tickets, with some running as low as $59. Stephan said this and ticket availability have been the center of some misconceptions, “Tons of people think Hamilton’s sold out. ‘Oh I can’t get a ticket.’ But there’s tickets still available at the door. We haven’t turned away anyone whos wanted to come. The other is people think tickets are crazy expensive, and that is not true. We have tickets as low as $59. Way more affordable than Taylor Swift or Beyoncé.”

Hamilton arrived to the Lied Center for its first performance on Wednesday, and will close curtains for its last show next Sunday, August 13th, at 7:00 p.m.

As Stephan said, don’t throw away your shot to see the modern musical phenomenon. Go to liedcenter.org for tickets and show times.
