Removing Names From Petitions In Nebraska

By Tom Stanton Aug 2, 2023 | 8:50 AM

Lancaster County Election Commissioner Todd Wiltgen is reminding people that state law allows  Nebraska voters to remove their name from a petition.  Wiltgen says the Election Commission has received numerous calls requesting information about the process after voters signed the Save Our Schools petition, which is a referendum on an education tax credit opportunity to private school donors passed by the legislature this year titled the Opportunity Scholarships Act.

Wiltgen says Lancaster County voters can complete an affidavit at the Election Commissioner’s Office at 601 North 46th Street during normal business hours Monday through Friday. The affidavit can also be downloaded from the Election Commissioner’s website at www.lancaster.ne.gov/election.

The original affidavit must be signed and sworn to before the election commissioner or a notary public, mailed or hand-delivered to the Election Commission’s Office and received by the Election Commissioner on or before the petition is filed for verification.

Voters in other Nebraska counties may return affidavits to their respective county election office or the Nebraska Secretary of State’s Office.  Click here for a list of other county election officials.
