Lincoln Police arrested a suspected drunk driver after he crashed into another vehicle at 27th and Y Street late Monday night. “Just before that crash occurred, a Lincoln Police officer attempted a traffic stop on that mini-van near 27th and Superior Street as it was reported the driver was intoxicated and having a suspended license. says Lt. Jon Armstrong.
He tells KLIN News the driver refused to stop and took off southbound on N 27th Street at a high rate of speed. “The officer did not initiate a pursuit because it was believed a pursuit would have posed a danger to public safety.”
Armstrong says the driver continued south and ran a red light at 27th and Y and struck an eastbound SUV. The driver of the mini-van was taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries. A blood draw was obtained and a DUI investigation is underway. Armstrong says citations will be issued at a later date as police await toxicology reports.
The SUV driver was not hurt. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call LPD non-emergency number at 402-441-6000. Those wishing to remain anonymous should call
