Chelsea Johnson, a member of the Lincoln Electric System Administrative Board of Directors and Lower Platte South NRD (Natural Resource District) Board of Directors, has announced her 2024 candidacy for the Lancaster County Board of Commissioners, District 4.
Johnson, a Democrat, has earned the endorsement of Republican Commissioner Roma Amundson, who currently represents the District 4 seat and announced her retirement from the Board. “Chelsea is a qualified and experienced leader with deep Nebraska roots,” Amundson said. “I trust her to build common ground and find long-tern solutions to our most serious problems.”
Prior to her career in Lincoln, she served as a Community and Economic Development Specialist for USDA Rural development, where she worked with rural counties across the country. Chelsea Johnson is a 7th generation Nebraskan, who grew up in Nemaha County, Nebraska. Chelsea graduated from Johnson-Brock Public Schools and earned a degree from Nebraska Wesleyan University.
Johnson is the Deputy Director of Conservation Nebraska where she oversees Nebraskans access to clean air and safe drinking water. As a member of the Lower Platte South NRD Board of Directors, Johnson has expressed focus on taxes as well as protecting the community from flood damage. As a member of the Lincoln Electric System Board, Johnson has prioritized clean affordable energy and keeping rates low.
“Local government is a place where we can get beyond the partisanship that we see too often at the state and national level. I’ve worked with Republicans, Democrats, and Independents to keep our taxes low while providing the important services that people expect,” Johnson said. “I‘m running to build common ground and solve the problems that our community is facing to make a better community for all of us.”
As a Lancaster County Commissioner, Johnson said her focus will be on keeping our community affordable, economic development, strengthening our infrastructure, and ensuring a safe and healthy community for all.
Johnson has been endorsed, across the political spectrum, by Mayor Lemon Gaylor Baird, State Senators Eliot Bostar and Anna Wishart, former State Senator and current Lincoln Electric System Board member Kate Bolz, County Commissioners Sean Flowerday, Christa Yoakum, and Rick Yest, former State Senator and County Commissioner Kathy Campbell, former County Commissioner and current Lower Platte South NRD Board Director Ray Stevens, and Lower Platte South NRD Board Directors Gary Hellerich, Don Jacobson, Tom Green, Deborah Eagan, Christine Lamberty, Luke Peterson, Susan Seacrest, and Mark Spangler.
