Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol Carrier Enforcement Division conducted surprise commercial vehicle inspections in Lancaster County on Wednesday and Thursday. NSP Spokesman Cody Thomas tells KLIN News the Metropolitan Aggressive and Prevention Selective Team focuses on commercial vehicles that might not travel outside the city or pass-through weigh stations as part of their regular routes.
“They may not be subjected to an inspection, which is critically important to keep all vehicles on the road safe.” Several vehicles inspected were taken out of due to safety issues, including bad brakes or tires and other problems that pose immediate safety risks.
During the special enforcement effort, the MAPS Team conducted 32 vehicle inspections. Troopers discovered 113 violations of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and state law. 26 vehicles were taken out of service and not allowed to return to the road. Vehicles are taken out of service for a variety of reasons relating to bad brakes or tires, or other problems that pose immediate safety risks. Two drivers were also taken out of service.
The MAPS Team is funded largely by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. Troopers check for compliance with federal safety regulations and enforce laws pertaining to weight, size, registration, dyed fuels, and permits associated with commercial vehicles.
