Massive Railyard TV Screen Undergoing Revamp

Lincoln’s famous Canopy Street venue is getting an upgrade.

Formally, THE CUBE presented by Union Bank & Trust, has captured the attention of thousands for the last 10 years… but recently has gone down. Now the giant outdoor screen is undergoing a replacement. Marking the second phase of development in for the Haymarket area, said President/CEO of the Downtown Lincoln Association Todd Ogden on the Thursday edition of the Dan Parsons Show.

“The old screen is down. Kind of reached its end of life. And property owner WRK decided to bite the bullet and say, hey, we’re just going to buy a new one and it’s going to be state of the art. Seen some renderings of what it can do. So super excited to have that launched.” said Ogden, he continued that this renovation will, “kind of be the first indication of this gradual phase 2 in that area that’s looking to continue to make that area a destination within itself. Certainly there’s ancillary benefits of being next to the arena…but to continue provide something that it does for the community. It brings a lot of people who normally wouldn’t come downtown to downtown, which I like.”

Ogden added, the Railyard has been a magnet for new businesses and developments along Canopy Street, “They’re looking to bring those sorts of crowds and continue to help support the businesses that are around there, like Gate 25, Longwell’s, Hiro 88, Mellow Mushroom, and figure out just how to get it all to work together. Because development continues to go down Canopy Street, and that’s only going to make that area more active.”

As far as a timeline on completion, its fair to assume developers are aiming to have the new state of the art screen up and running by late August in time for fans to pack the locale to watch the Huskers face off against Minnesota on the 31st at 7:00 P.M.
