An investigation is underway after an inmate was found dead at the Reception and Treatment Center in Lincoln. Department of Corrections officials say Kak Thoan was found unresponsive in his cell on Tuesday and staff members performed CPR.
Thoan was transported to a Lincoln hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The Nebraska State Patrol will conduct the investigation into his death. Thoan began serving a 55-60 sentence in 2016 for manslaughter out of Douglas County.
As is the case whenever an inmate dies in the custody of the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services a grand jury will conduct an investigation.
