In an effort to cut down on dangerous driving behaviors on interstates and highways the Nebraska State Patrol is putting troopers in a truck as part of Operation Safe Driving Week. “When the trooper that’s in the semi sees unsafe driving behavior around a semi the trooper will radio forward to troopers who are on patrol,” says NSP Spokesman Cody Thomas.
The Nebraska State Patrol Carrier Enforcement Division is taking part in the annual Operation Safe Driver campaign, which focuses on enforcement and safe-driving education of both passenger vehicle drivers and commercial drivers.
Thomas says most of the time they stop someone it will result in a warning, but citations are issued if warranted. Operation Safe Driver is an initiative coordinated by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance. The campaign runs through Saturday and includes law enforcement agencies across North America.
Troopers will be on the lookout for dangerous driving behaviors such as speeding, distracted driving, and impaired driving while on patrol across the state.
