The Nebraska Department of Corrections says a staff member at the Reception and Treatment Center in Lincoln was assaulted by an inmate on Tuesday afternoon that resulted in a serious injury.
Department officials say the incident happened when the staff member was checking the inmate’s ID. The inmate punched the employee in the head and face several times and was restrained by other staff members.
The injured employee was treated at the hospital and released. An investigation of the incident has been launched. Findings will be provided to the county attorney for determination of criminal prosecution.
The NDCS disciplinary process will be utilized with sanctions, such as loss of good time, applied according to the rules and regulations.
