With the Fourth of July in the rear view mirror Lincoln residents got a chance to get rid of any left over or unwanted fireworks at Oak Lake Park Monday morning.
LFR held it’s fifth annual Fireworks Amnesty event where residents could drive up and drop off fireworks with no questions asked. Fire Inspector Bill Moody tells KLIN News this was their biggest turnout ever.
“We got a lot of ammunition, people are rally anxious to get that out of their houses,” Moody says. “We had some consumer grade fireworks, a smattering of illegal fireworks, a little bit of everything.”
Moody says they also received fireworks that have been stored in basements for many years, which can be dangerous. “They degrade overtime, you know the packaging and the powder becomes a little more unstable.”
Dozens of people stopped by the fireworks drop off event, which ran from 9-11:30 a.m.
