A well-executed promotion can be a love story, and, on Friday, baseball fans said “yes”.
For one night only, the Lincoln Saltdogs converted to the Swiftdogs, in honor of the Taylor Swift-themed night at Haymarket Park. The Sioux City Explorers, meanwhile, appropriately became the Ex-Boyfriends.
The theme, plus a chance to win tickets to Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour, resulted in a franchise record for single-game attendance of 8,298. This was the first time in ‘Dogs history that more than 8,000 attended a game at Haymarket Park.
The attendance record had stood since the ‘Dogs inaugural season in 2001.
The promotion was a partnership between the Saltdogs and a trio of Broadcast House stations — B107.3, Froggy 98, and Red 94.5.
On the field, the Swiftdogs came to play, play, play and won 6-1.
After the game, the specially-designed Swiftdogs jerseys were auctioned off for another franchise record, with $4,480 being spent. Proceeds from the auction went to benefit Homer’s Heroes, a division of the Lincoln Youth Baseball Organization for boys and girls with physical or intellectual disabilities.
