Small Number of Cattle Killed in Burrito, Cattle Truck Crash

By Chase Porter Jun 30, 2023 | 10:41 AM

A small number of cattle did not survive an interstate collision between two semi trucks that occurred west of Lincoln.

Around 10:50am Thursday morning, Lincoln Police received a report of a crash near mile marker 394 on I-80. Police and Nebraska State Patrol units responded, and along with Department of Transportation units, diverted traffic during the crash investigation and cleanup. A detour route was established and brought traffic onto Highway 34, traveling westbound to the 388 Pleasant Dale exit, and back onto I-80.

Both semis were traveling westbound. The semi hauling roughly 60 head of cattle rear-ended a semi hauling boxes of burritos which was slowing down due to slower traffic ahead. The cattle truck then rolled into the north ditch. Both drivers were able to walk away from the crash. The cattle truck driver was later transported to Bryan West to be checked out.

I-80 was reopened at approximately 3:45pm.
