A 19 year old man was arrested after Lincoln Police tried to make a traffic stop near 27th and Vine around 3:00 Tuesday morning. “The 2006 Saturn
turned onto Fair Street but instead of stopping, accelerated eastbound,” says Sergeant Chris Vollmer.
“The vehicle traveled into the grass before returning to the road and striking several curbs. The vehicle became disabled near 30th &
Fair Street and two male occupants ran away from the car.”
Additional officers responded in the area and a K-9 tracked down 19-year-old Damien Schaffert of Lincoln and his 13 year old passenger near 30th and Center. Schaffert was taken into custody and identified as the driver. He was booked for operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest, theft by receiving, willful reckless driving and no operators license.
The 13-year-old boy was the passenger and was taken home and turned over to family members. The vehicle had been reported stolen near 48th and Spruce Street. It had been unlocked with the keys inside.
