Fireworks can be great fun for people but they can be a frightening time for our pets. Matt Madcharo with the Captiol Humane Society says this is the time of year when they see an increase in the number of runaway dogs.

He has this advice to keep your animals calm and safe. “Getting them into a room inside the home, maybe it’s in the basement or upstairs where you can close the blinds and turn on the radio or tv so there’s some background noise to drown out the fireworks,” Madcharo says.

Madcharo says make sure your animals are wearing ID tags with up to date information and microchipped.   If your pet is extremely sensitive to fireworks, He advises contacting your veterinarian before the holiday to have your pet tranquilized.
