Grammy Award Winning Act to Close Out Jazz In June Tuesday Night

By Chase Porter Jun 26, 2023 | 4:16 PM

Lincoln’s staple summer concert series Jazz In June wraps up Tuesday night with its final show of 2023, carried out by the two time Grammy Award winning act, Terrance Simien and the Zydeco Experience.

Hailing from Louisiana, Terrance Simien and his 6-member accompaniment have proven to be a quintessential component of the modern zydeco music scene. Mixing elements of jazz, funk, and blues with southwest Creole culture, has yielded them 2 Grammy award wins. Their first win for Best Zydeco or Cajun Music album for their 2008 project Live! Worldwide, and then in 2014 their project Dockside Sessions took home the award for Best Regional Roots Music Album.

The group has performed at The Lied Center in the past, but this will be Terrance Simien’s first appearance at Jazz in June. The outdoor jazz show will also be the kick off of a 6 week national tour for the band.

“It has been a great season. We’ve had great crowds… We’ve had a couple thousand people for each one and this one, we should be doing really well for this one as well,” said Jazz In June Director Mark Moore, “We’re real excited to be able to have Terence Simien… It’s New Orleans jazz, funk, zydeco music you can’t help but tap your feet and if you’re not dancing by the end of it, you’re not paying attention!”

Tuesday’s performance will begin at 7 p.m. and wrap up around 9 p.m. with a 15-minute intermission, located in the Sheldon Sculpture Garden on UNL’s campus.

The rain out location for tomorrow will be the Lied Center. For more information on Jazz in June go to: jazzinjune.com
