By Tom Stanton Jun 20, 2023 | 1:53 PM

Lincoln Police arrested a man after they say he fired a round from a handgun during an incident early Monday morning.   Sergeant Chris Vollmer says they were called to Russell Welch’s home near 66th and Dudley around 12:30 a.m. by a woman who was there with three other people.

“Welch became upset and reportedly discharged a handgun near the victim,” Vollmer says.  She and the other three people fled from the house  and a  search warrant was obtained for Welch’s home and served with the assistance of LPD’s SWAT team.

Vollmer says Welch was not home at the time. “Multiple boxes of varying caliber ammunition was located. A living room wall as
also observed to have damage consistent with a bullet strike.”

Police later arrested Welch after a resident in the area saw him coming out of an RV parked on their property. He was arrested for terroristic threats, using a weapon to commit a felony and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
