Relay For Life Walk Friday At Northwest High School

By Tom Stanton Jun 15, 2023 | 2:33 PM

The American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life Walk will be held Friday night at Lincoln Northwest High School.  Lisa McClung with the Cancer Society tells KLIN News the event raises money for cancer research and patient support services.

“We just come together to celebrate those who may have passed from cancer, those that are survivors of cancer and the fight against cancer for the future.”

Some of the patient services include free transportation to and from treatments and providing a place to stay for patients and caregivers who are far away from their homes during treatment.

McClung says the event will run from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. and is free to everyone.  They will have a live band, food trucks, classic car display and activities for kids.  She says tents will be set up for sun protection and everyone is encouraged to bring lawn chairs

McClung says just after 9:00 hundreds of luminarias in honor and in memory of cancer survivors and those that have been lost will be lit with glow sticks around the track.  “We will walk around those luminarias, we do a silent lap.  It’s really a touching moment for people that have gone through that battle.”
