Lincoln Police responded to a report of a large fight near N. 22nd and Sheldon Street around 8:30 Wednesday night. Sergeant Chris Vollmer says as officers arrived an SUV was leaving the area and they tried to stop it.
“A male exited the rear passenger side of the vehicle and appeared to drop a black pistol onto the pavement,” says Sergeant Chris Vollmer. “The male retrieved the pistol and ran away on foot.”
Officers chased 21-years-of-age Daygeon Bateman over fences and through several yards. Bateman was found near a fence in the backyard of a home. Vollmer says they found a 9mm handgun in the backyard where Bateman was arrested for possession of firearm by a prohibited person, obstructing a police officer and possession of less than an ounce of marijuana.
