Lincoln Home Owner Creates Website To Help Protest Property Valuations

By Chase Porter Jun 15, 2023 | 10:26 AM

Protesting your most recent property valuation just got a whole lot easier thanks to a Lincoln man. Protests are due by the end of June.

Gordon Smith used his software developing skills to create a website called LancasterPropertySearch.com. This free service complies public records to compare recent sale prices of nearby homes with similar characteristics. You can then use this information when making that protest to the county clerk’s office.

Smith was inspired to create this tool when he received a final assessment of his property that was double the initial evaluation, and found the process of searching for property value information overly complicated.

With this new utility, Smith found an interesting data trend. When comparing countywide valuations in 2023 to previous years, 2023 stood out. Over the last 5 years, the total increase in county property value ranged from $1.2 to $2.7 billion each year. But this year? Property in Lancaster County increased by almost $7 billion.
