A warning from state officials to anyone planning to go to Bluestem Lake in Lancaster County this weekend. A health alert has been issued for harmful algal blooms, also known as toxic blue-green algae.
During the alert swimming beaches will be closed but boating and fishing will be permitted. People are advised to avoid exposure to the water and not let their pets in the water or drink from the lake.
Public areas for camping, picnics and other outdoor activities can still be used. A similar alert issued last week at Pawnee Lake has been lifted.
