Lancaster County Sheriff’s Deputies caught a man who they say was driving through fields just before 6:00 Tuesday morning. Chief Deputy Ben Houchin says it began near 162nd and Old Cheney.  “Driving erratic and dragging fence posts.”

While deputies were responding to the call Houchin says they received several additional calls going through fields, running over fences and it also lost one of it’s tires.

He says the vehicle eventually drove into a creek bed and got stuck.  “He was covered in blood, he had several cuts on him and a wound to his chest that was self-inflicted we believe by a saw blade.”

Houchin says thousands of dollars in damage was done.  He says the man also stole 17 gallons of gas from a residence and the pump was still in the truck.

Houchin says the man was having a mental health crisis at the time.  He was taken to the hospital and so far no charges have been filed.  Houchin says once he is released from the hospital it’s possible he could be charged with criminal mischief.
