“It’s the start of summer,” said Bill Stephan, in excitement for the return of the Lincoln favorite, longest running, free summer concert series: Jazz In June.
Hosted by the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, Jazz in June take place every Tuesday evening during the month of June in the Sheldon Sculpture Garden. The free concert series will feature two sets of music from 7-7:45 p.m. and 8-8:45 p.m., respectively, with a 15-minute intermission. Beyond the performances, the series will include education outreach coordinated by community centers and artists.
Executive Director & Chief Artistic Officer for the Lied Center Bill Stephan is also chair for the concert series. He told KLIN News, “Jazz In June is at the heart of Lincoln’s spirit… its the good life.”
Returning this year to Jazz in June is the big street food festival featuring 12 different food trucks. If Jazz isn’t your style, there will be food for everyone in downtown Tuesday nights. The market will offer food and drinks from 5 to 9 p.m. on 12th Street between Q and R Street.
Rain or shine, the show will go on. The Rococo Theatre will be a rain location for the first 3 shows, and the Lied Center will be the rain location for the last week. Pets are not allowed. More information on the event and links to sample music from the groups jazzinjune.com.
