LFR Rescues Man From Third Story Apartment

By Tom Stanton May 31, 2023 | 8:21 AM

Lincoln firefighters found smoke and flames coming from an apartment building near 16th and G around 4:30 Tuesday afternoon.  Dispatched  advised LFR crews that there was a man sitting in a window saying he needed to jump.

Upon arrival they found the man on the smoke filled window sill three stories up. The crews immediately set up a ladder and rescued the man. “He refused treatment by LFR, but went to the hospital by private vehicle with minor injuries,” says LFR Public Information Officer MJ Lierman.

Heavy flames and smoke were found inside the apartment.  Firefighters extinguished it about 15 minutes. The man’s dog died in the fire and was turned over to Animal Control.

Some of the units had smoke damage and some below sustained water damage.  The cause of the fire is not yet known. Fire alarms were working and alerted the residents.

Damages are expected to be at least $150,000.
