Lincoln Police say a man was cited after a grass fire got out of hand and spread to three homes on Friday afternoon. Investigators say that according to neighbors the man had been burning cotton that had accumulated on his lawn near 56th and ‘O’ Streets.

LFR spokesperson MJ Lierman says the windy conditions helped to ignite other yard debris in several areas and along fence lines. The fire quickly spread and caused damage to three nearby homes and five adjoining backyards.

Damage to the three properties is estimated at $300,000.  No one was hurt.  He was cited for negligent burning.
