Two people were arrested after fleeing from Lincoln police in a stolen SUV. Sergeant Chris Vollmer says officers were called to the area of 13th and E Street around 9:00 Tuesday morning by someone who said a man and woman had just left in their Chevy Equinox.
Vollmer says an officer observed the vehicle near 11th and B Street and tried to stop it in an alley. The driver took off and fled southbound on 10th Street.
The SUV was spotted on Williams Street between Van Dorn and Sheridan, but it sped away again. The NSP helicopter tracked the vehicle as it traveled around the city. A trooper deployed stop sticks at 32nd and Fair Street. “The vehicle continued to the area of 40th & Y Street before both occupants exited and fled on foot,” Vollmer says
He says 40-year-old Shernell Henderson was arrested as she tried to climb a backyard fence the 39th and Apple. 39-year-old Tony
Smith was taken into custody after he was observed entering the back entrance of an associate’s home. Smith was booked for DUI with three prior convictions, sex offender registration violation, operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, driving during revocation, false reporting, possession of an open alcohol container in a motor vehicle and refusing to submit to to a preliminary breath test.
Henderson was booked for assault on an officer, resisting arrest and criminal mischief.
