Stolen Car Found Burning Near Southwest High School

By Tom Stanton May 8, 2023 | 2:23 PM

Lincoln Police continue to investigate after a stolen car was found burning in a field behind Southwest High School Sunday afternoon. Sergeant Chris Vollmer says before the fire the Hyundai Sonata was involved in a collision in the school parking lot.

“A witness observed the car driving recklessly in the lot and collided with a light pole.”  The car was later found engulfed in flames in the field and investigators say the fire was deliberately set.

Vollmer says the car had been stolen from the Union Bank parking lot near 48th and Bancroft and was involved in a hit and run at 15th and Superior around 11:45 Saturday night.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is encouraged to contact Lincoln Police at 402-441-6000 or Lincoln Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
