The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office says the man who was shot by officers in west Lincoln on May 1 has died. 35-year-old Chase Abney died at a Lincoln hospital on Saturday.
He was shot after investigators say he followed members of the Lincoln-Lancaster County Narcotics Task Force from the Super 8 motel near 28th and West O Street to where they were conducting an unrelated investigation.
Investigators say Abney was in a vehicle that followed the task force members to the parking lot to the north side of West “O” Street. Chief Deputy Ben Houchin says Abney got out of his vehicle with a handgun and fired one shot. An LPD officer and a Nebraska State Patrol investigator returned fire striking Abney.
“In my review of the case I have no concerns over the shooting and it was justified,” Houchin said on Monday. An autopsy was performed Monday morning.
