MAD Fair at Scott Middle School

By Mark Vail May 4, 2023 | 5:28 AM

6th Grade students at Scott Middle School will present the MAD Fair Thursday afternoon.  MAD is the acronym for Make A Difference.

Cailin Lawrence with her MAD Fair project on Habitat Loss

According to the MAKE A DIFFERENCE website,  ” Our “Make a Difference Project” started out simply as a way to make research more enjoyable and meaningful for our 6th-grade students.  We didn’t like how the research process ended with the students writing a paper with only their teachers (and maybe some peers) for an audience.”

Students picked a topic they felt needed awareness and/or improvement in their lives and then did research and projects to explain the findings.  Those projects will be on display this afternoon, May 4th from 4:30 pm to 6 pm at the Scott Middle School gym at 2200 Pine Lake Road.

KLIN News was alerted to the MAD Fair by student Cailin Lawrence.  Cailin’s research was on Habitat Loss.  She shared some of her findings on KLIN News and will be at the MAD Fair with her project.

The public is invited to the MAD Fair which has raised over $80,000 to help raise awareness for major problems the students identify, research and present on.

KLIN News would also like to thank the Scott Middle School 6th Grade teachers for helping KLIN News understand the scope and depth of the project.  A special note of thanks to teacher Eric Nelson for arranging KLIN’s coverage.
