LPS Student Brings Realistic Airsoft Gun To School

By Tom Stanton May 4, 2023 | 2:36 PM

There was cause for concern on Thursday morning at Irving Middle School after students reported seeing another student with a possible gun.  Principal Rachel Kluk-Spann sent a letter to parents detailing the incident.  She says administrators made immediate contact with the student.

During their investigation, Kluk-Spann says they found an airsoft pistol with the orange tip removed, making it look realistic.  LPS says the student did not have any plastic pellets that the gun fire.

LPS said the student will face appropriate consequences as outlined in their Important Information Book.  The district is working with LPD on the investigation.

“I want to thank the students who came forward and reported they felt unsafe,” Kluk-Spann said in the letter to parents.  “That is how we keep our school safe. Please continue to encourage your student to report anything that makes them feel unsafe.”

LPS also wants families to talk with their child and stress that weapons of any kind are not allowed at school, even toy or airsoft guns. In her letter, Kluk-Spann assured parents that their kids are safe and that there are caring adults at school to support them.
