Lincoln Police were called to 9th and Q Street around 5 a.m. Thursday for a report of a burglary in progress. “An employee reported seeing two people inside the construction site on live video footage,” says LPD Public Information Officer Erika Thomas.
She says the men left in a red van and officers stopped a vehicle matching that description near I-180 and Cornhusker. Thomas says officers spoke with both men and found a saw, hoses, extension cords and other construction tools inside the van with a total value of more than $500.
The investigation led to the arrests of 42-year-old Jeffrey Smith for burglary and 40-year-old Jory Rybij for burglary and false reporting. “This highlights the positive impact of businesses and homes utilizing video surveillance technology to monitor property and helping law enforcement quickly apprehend those responsible in cases like this.”
