Early Voters Reminded To Return Their Ballots

By Tom Stanton Apr 26, 2023 | 12:40 PM

Lancaster County Election Commissioner Todd Wiltgen is reminding early voters who have not returned their ballots for Lincoln’s General Election on May 2 that they must be received in his office no later than 8:00 p.m. on Election Day.

Through mid-day Wednesday, Wiltgen says they have only received about 17,000 of the 37,000 early vote ballots it mailed out.  He’s asking voters to return their ballots promptly and not wait until the last minute.

Wiltgen suggests mailing ballots no later than Thursday, April 27th to allow plenty of time for the U.S. Postal Service to process the mail.  In the days following the April 4th Primary Election, Wiltgen says his office received 670 ballots by mail that arrived too late and were not counted.

Beginning this Friday, the best method to return ballots would be to drop them off at the Election Commissioner’s Official Ballot Drop Box which is located on the north side of the Election Commissioner’s Building at 601 North 46th Street. It is available twenty-four hours a day.

Wiltgen also reminds early voters that Nebraska law does not allow early vote ballots to be returned to a voter’s polling location on Election Day. Voters may check the status of their early vote ballot on the Nebraska Secretary of State’s Voter View website at https://www.votercheck.necvr.ne.gov
