Tuesday’s contest between the Creighton Bluejays and Nebraska Cornhuskers will be wrapped up on a later date after a lightning delay ends the contest at Haymarket Park.
After trailing for a majority of the game, Nebraska seemed moments away from grabbing control of the game in the seventh inning with bases loaded and no one out, until the weather put off NU’s golden opportunity.
Kyle Perry made his first start Tuesday evening since 2022.
Perry produced two clean innings working around the Bluejays, who found their way into scoring position. Creighton eventually capitalized in the third after a walk and home run from Creighton second baseman Andrew Meggs.
Perry’s day ended after pitching three innings, allowing two runs, two hits, two walks, and recording two strikeouts.
Creighton added to their lead after an RBI double from right fielder Ben Gbur. The Big Red responded immediately in the bottom of the inning with a Casey Burnham solo home run, his second of the season.
Creighton extended their lead to three in the fifth after a Brice Matthews error, and a wild pitch allowed designated hitter Tyler Lozano into scoring position. Lozano was later brought home on a two-out double.
The Huskers finally put some offense together after a Brice Matthews two-run 433-foot moonshot brought the Huskers back one. The home run was Matthews’s 14th of the season and his third homer in two games.
Nebraska carried the momentum into the next inning, tying the game at four off a Cole Evans single that scored Efry Cervantes.
The Cornhuskers were in a prime position to capture the lead in the seventh. After a single, hit by a pitch, and a walk NU had the bases loaded with 0 outs, but lightning struck.
After an attempted Creighton pitching change, it was announced at Haymarket Park that the game was delayed due to inclement weather. It was announced later the game was officially delayed and will be resume at a later date.
