LPS students from across the city will gather at Lincoln East High School on Saturday to raise money and awareness for child hunger. John Mabry is Vice President of Fundraising for the Food Bank of Lincoln and says the LPS Extra Mile Walk helps them put food in backpacks to support needy students.
“To help make sure that kids that need backpacks of food and support from our school food markets and our emergency pantry have all those resources.”
He says the walks raises over $100,000 each year. “It’s about 20,000 backpacks of food that that provides,” Mabry says. “We can take care of hundreds of students who come through our school food markets with that kind of support.”
He says all LPS schools participate. The event on Saturday begins at 10:00 a.m. and is a casual one mile walk. Anyone is welcome to join.
