Lincoln – Lancaster County Election Commissioner Todd Wiltgen announced today that his office mailed over 35,000 early vote ballots for the May 2nd General City Election. Every voter who requested an early vote ballot through last Friday should receive their ballots by the end of this week. Early vote ballots may be returned to the Election Commission by returning them in the self-addressed envelope enclosed with their ballot by mail or by dropping them off in the secure drop box located on the north side of the Lancaster County Election Commission’s Office.
Commissioner Wiltgen reminds voters they should not wait until the last minute to return their ballots. By law, they must be received by the Election Commission by 8:00 PM on May 2nd. In the days following the April 4th Primary Election, the Election Commission received 670 ballots by mail. Unfortunately, these ballots were received too late and not counted.
State law permits any registered voter to cast an early ballot. However, voters must request that ballot in writing. An early vote request form is also available on the Election Commissioner’s website at: www.lancaster.ne.gov/election. Vote by mail applications for the May 2nd primary must be received by the Election Commissioner’s Office by 6:00 PM on Friday, April 21st.
Also starting today, Lincoln voters may cast an early ballot in person for the May General at the Election Office at 601 North 46th Street. Early in person voting for the general election will continue through Monday, May 1st. The office will be open this week Monday through Thursday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM and from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM on Friday.
Anyone having questions regarding early voting should contact the Election Office at (402) 441-7311.
