The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Department recently took part in the ‘U Text. U Drive. U Pay’ nationwide crackdown.  Deputies  conducting saturation patrol.  Additional deputies patrolled in marked patrol cars and concentrated their efforts on distracted driving violations, which specifically include the use of cell phones.

The deputies involved in the saturation patrol from April 3-9 stopped 173 vehicles and arrested three people on outstanding arrest warrants.  They also issued 110 traffic citations, including 41 for speeding 42 for registration and insurance violations, one DUI and six seatbelt violations.

Overtime compensation for the additional deputies working during the campaign was paid through a mini-grant funded by the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office.
