Lincoln residents will have a chance to take part in a Stuff the Bus event this weekend to benefit Friendship Home, a local organization that provides emergency shelter and crisis services to domestic violence victims.
StarTran busses will be parked outside Walmart or Sam’s Club stores Saturday and Sunday to help provide the basic needs for families served by Friendship Home.
“Those that are fleeing domestic violence are often times they’re coming into one of our shelters with none of those items for hygiene, diapers to help their children or food to feed their children,” says Development Director Dani Jurgens.
In addition to non-perishable food items and diapers, cleaning supplies, toilet paper, paper towels, laundry detergent and baskets, bath towels and kitchenware are also needed.
Cash and gift card donations are also accepted. Volunteers will be collecting items that people purchase and putting them into the busses. Donations will be accepted from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday at the following locations.
- Walmart and Sam’s Club stores, North 27th and Superior streets, South 87th Street and Highway 2
- Walmart stores, North 84th and Adams streets, South 27th Street and Grainger Parkway
