Lincoln Police are reminding residents that they can get rid of unwanted legal or illegal guns with no questions asked during a gun amnesty day on Saturday.

LPD Public Information Officer Erika Thomas says residents can drive up, drop them off and drive away. “Those firearms should be brought in the trunk or backseat of a vehicle in an open box, bag or container,” Thomas says.

She says it’s preferred the guns be unloaded, but if anyone is unfamiliar with how to unload a firearm someone will do it for them at the site.   The drop off will run from 10 a.m. to noon in the parking lot on the northside of 5201 R Street.

Hope LNK will also be on site handing out trigger locks and handgun lock boxes to the community while supplies last,” Thomas says.  Gun attachments and ammunition will also be accepted.
