Two Teens Arrested After Pursuit In Lincoln

By Tom Stanton Apr 6, 2023 | 11:25 AM

The Nebraska State Patrol and Lincoln Police arrested two teenagers following a pursuit in Lincoln Wednesday night. Just before 11:00 p.m. the patrol received a report that a stolen vehicle had just fled from a Lincoln Police Officer near 1st and Cornhusker.

LPD says earlier in the evening the car was stolen from a Lincoln residence.  A trooper found the vehicle driving recklessly. The trooper attempted to make a traffic stop near 2nd and Furnas Streets, but the driver refused to pull over.  The vehicle fled through a dead-end road and into a field. The trooper did not follow the car into the field.

LPD was able to track the vehicle to the area of  56th and Fletcher and attempted another traffic stop. The patrol says the driver again fled and the trooper began a pursuit.

Stop sticks were deployed near 56th and Alvo Road and the Subaru Accent came to a stop.  The patrol says the two teens got out and fled on foot. An LPD officer deployed a taser after the 16 year old passenger reached into his waistband several times. He was then taken into custody.  The patrol says he kicked an LPD officer and later spat in a trooper’s face and also kicked and bit the trooper.

The 15-year-old driver was eventually taken into custody and was booked at the Youth Detention Center for willful reckless driving, flight to avoid arrest, theft by unlawful taking, obstructing a peace officer and no operator’s license.

The passenger was booked for assault on an officer, theft by unlawful taking,  assault on a public safety officer with bodily fluids, obstructing a peace officer and resisting arrest.
