Come late April, the veterans of Lancaster County will have much better parking options for the Veterans Service Office.

The announcement came this week from the Lancaster County Board of Commissioners and Veterans Service Officer Mark Lakamp. On April 24th, the new Lancaster County Veterans Service Office will be moving to the Victory Park Campus at 600 South 70th Street, Building #2, Suite #200.

The new location will be on the same campus with the City of Lincoln’s Aging Partners and the Veterans’ Health Administration’s Community-Based Outpatient Clinic, creating great convenience for clients. Additionally, the new location has accessible amenities such as adjacent parking, ground level access, immediate proximity to a StarTran route, and the convenience of having multiple service providers right nextdoor.

“This is something that’s been in the works for quite a while to redevelop the old VA campus. A decision was made that this would be a great opportunity to put services in a convenient location for our veteran and family client base as well as the aging partners client base.” Officer Lakamp told KLIN News.

“For a lot of our veterans who are either disabled or aging, it’s hard to get around…so having that parking area right next to us is great. Having the ability to make one trip for any of their veteran services, whether that’s going to the VA clinic just north of us, or to our office if they need some help, or working with aging partners…It’ll just make it simpler for all of our folks to get the services they need.” said Lakamp.

He added, that many veterans may be entitled to benefits and services they’ve earned through their service, but aren’t taking advantage of.

“Lancaster County has over 17,000 veterans…There are, I think, a lot of veterans out there who don’t realize they may be eligible for some benefits, whether it be compensation for disabilities or increased healthcare. They’ve earned it through their service to our country and we wanna make sure that they are taking advantage of those benefits,” Lakamp said in a press release, “The passage of the PACT Act in August 2022 has significantly increased the number of Vietnam and Gulf War era Veterans who are eligible for benefits. Our office is standing by to assist them.”

The Veterans Service Office located at 605 South 10th Street will be closed from April 18th to April 21st to facilitate the move to Victory Park. If you need immediate assistance during that time, you can call the State Service Office at (402)420-4021 or the County Board Office at (402)441-7447.

The Veterans Service Office will be open for business at the new Victory Park location on April 24th. Business hours will be Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and 12:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
