City Of Lincoln Will Annex 445 Acre Area After Council Approval

By Tom Stanton Mar 28, 2023 | 8:36 AM

Approximately 445 acres located between 70th and 84th and Pine Lake to Yankee Hill will be annexed into Lincoln following a unanimous vote of the Lincoln City Council Monday evening.

“There is going to be some inconveniences that are going to be different,” says City Councilman Richard Meginnis.  “They’re going to be a part of the City, they’re going to have to start living with some of the City’s rules.  It’s not going to be easy, but it’s just something I think we needed to do at this time.”

Meginnis offered an amendment to delay the annexation to July 1 to allow Southeast Fire District and Lancaster County time to make operational and budget adjustments as the area comes under Lincoln rules and taxation.   “To allow the county and the Southeast Rural Fire District to collect all of 2023 taxes and to give them another year to budget for the loss of income that will be taken out of the fire district.”

The vote on the amendment and the overall plan were approved unanimously.
